Nothing is launching a new version of its already launched–Nothing Phone 2a. Now if you are wondering what is new with the Community Edition, theNothing’s Community Edition smartphone is a special version of the Nothing Phone 2a, created with direct input from its fan community. Launched as part of a project that started in March 2024, this edition involves ideas contributed by users for design, wallpapers, packaging, and marketing. The UK-based company, led by Carl Pei, wanted to involve its community in shaping the look and feel of this phone, making it a unique collaborative effort. The phone will be launched in India on October 30, Nothing has confirmed on its social media handles.
What Makes It Different?
The Community Edition stands out primarily due to its exterior design and packaging, which differ from the regular Nothing Phone 2a. The final design features a Phosphorescence concept, meaning it has a green finish that glows in the dark. The wallpapers and packaging are also customized to follow this glowing, phosphorescent theme, which gives the phone a distinctive appearance compared to the standard model.
However, while the outside looks different, the internal specifications of the phone remain unchanged. It will still be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC, just like the regular Nothing Phone 2a. The special edition is more about offering a unique aesthetic and packaging experience rather than altering the phone’s hardware or performance.
What Changes Were Made?
The process involved four stages: hardware design, wallpaper creation, packaging development, and marketing strategies. These elements were chosen with input from community members, whose ideas were incorporated into the final product. This hands-on involvement gave fans a chance to be a part of the creative process, adding a personal touch to the phone.
Nothing Phone 2a: Specifications and features
The Nothing Phone (2a) features a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 30Hz to 120Hz. The 30Hz option helps save battery life. The screen also offers a peak brightness of 1,300 nits and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro chipset, the phone promises fast performance. Nothing has committed to providing three Android version updates and four years of security patches. According to Antutu benchmarks, the Phone 2a outperforms some of its competitors in terms of speed.
The phone comes with a dual rear camera setup. The primary camera is a 50-megapixel lens with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and an f/1.88 aperture, while the secondary 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera has a 114-degree field of view, perfect for capturing wider shots. For selfies, there’s a 32-megapixel front camera.
The device is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging. However, the phone does not come with a charger in the box and lacks wireless charging support.
